On December 3rd, 2020, Marta Rio CALVO successfully defended her PhD thesis entitled:Epitaxy of GaSb on on-axis (001)Si for integrated optoelectronics. In her work Marta developed a strategy to promote self-annihilation of anti-phase boundaries – device killer defects – during the molecular-beam epitaxy of GaSb on on-axis Si substrates. Thanks to this work, high performance laser diodes could be grown on Si substrates, paving the way to integrated optoelectronics.
On December 8th, 2020, Daniel A. Diaz-Thomas successfully defended his PhD thesis entitled:Design, fabrication and investigations of interband-cascade laser (ICL) structures for mid-infrared VCSELs. This thesis was the first one in our group devoted to ICLs. Thanks to Daniel’s work we are now at the State-of-the-Art.
